Genesis Class
Come and join the Genesis Class if you are age 17 to 26 or if you just feel comfortable with people around that age. We use books like “The Purpose Driven Life” and “One Month to Live”, which we read and discuss together. These books seem to relate to today’s issues and concerns and relate to Bible scripture well. Our group has lively discussions and all are encouraged to voice their experiences or thoughts if desired. We do focus on God’s love and grace and opportunity to return that love to others and the community. We try to have at least a yearly mission project and have raised money for needy families. We handed out gift coupons for restaurants, worked in a Soup Kitchen in Sanford, and supported Every Nation Ministries, which is a college campus based program. We also do fun things like enjoying a snow skiing trip at Boone, NC, while working there at Operation Christmas Child. We would love for you to join us in learning about and celebrating God’s Word, Love, and Grace! See Dexter and Ann Poe for more information.
Jubilee
The Jubilee class consists of parents of pre-school and school-aged children. Class members are in their 30's and 40's. They use Standard Publishing's literature, the Standard Lesson Quarterly, which is the nation’s most popular adult Bible school lesson based on the International Sunday School Lesson (ISSL) Program. The scripture in the Quarterly is from the New International Version of the Bible. See www.standardpub.com for more information. See Denise Staley if you have questions.
Adult Contemporary
The New Adult Contemporary group meets in the west wing of the sanctuary at 10:15 AM each Sunday morning. The group is composed of approximately 10 adults of all ages. The class is led by Carolyn Minnich. Our focus is on finding biblical guidance for real life problems and is based upon contemporary events and concerns. The delivery of the class often involves contemporary books, videos, and music. The group also organizes outreach programs including providing food, clothing, and monetary assistance to needy families in the community. All adults are welcome to attend a group meeting. Reading the discussion-topic books is not a prerequisite for group participation.
The group will start a new discussion series on 1/17/10 based upon the book Crazy Love: Overwhelmed by a Relentless God by Francis Chan. The following is an excerpt from this class:
It's crazy if you think about it. The God of the universe -- the Creator of nitrogen and pine needles, galaxies and E-minor -- loves us with a radical, unconditional, self-sacrificing love. And what is our typical response? We go to church, sing songs, and try not to cuss. Whether you've verbalized it yet or not....we all know something's wrong. God is calling you to a passionate love relationship with Himself. Because the answer to religious complacency isn't working harder at a list of do's and don'ts -- it's falling in love with God.
Please join us next Sunday!
